它又切又砍, 然后做薯条!

This attitude of brazenly encouraging learned technological helplessness is exactly why I do not and never will trust Apple. They may make an aesthetic product, but if I can't open said pretty box up without fucking myself over for all eternity, then I don't want it.

Other bits from catching up on my NYT/NPR/etc. backlog:
- Marry me, Gail Collins? I clean up after myself and I make a mean curry!
- Review of Sarah Palin's book, "Going Rogue". I can only hope someone does a reading to equal those of Joe the Plumber's and Carrie Prejean's "biographies."
- Fun collection of Ramen-related memories.
- Famous authors read the funnies, via Roger Ebert. Garfield via James Joyce has a surreal quality, being so awkwardly true to its source material.

EONUS: A surreal moment, courtesy of Mississippi's gambling interests. Sorry, casinos, but the only thing I really want to know about Troy King is if he's really yet another conservative republican homophobe hypocrite.

Ah, conglomerates. The American Way.

In "News I Did Not Expect to Hear," Disney is buying out Marvel Entertainment.

Mickey + Spiderman = Profit??? I may lack a magic 8 ball, but I sense that the answer is "Ask again later."

Not enough hours in the day for podcasts.

I've been meaning to post a full listing of all of the blogs I follow, but their sheer number (cracking into the mid-thirties) combined with the wonky nature of some (really, how many people besides me are interested in analysis of daily news in China?) doesn't really make it much of a productive exercise.

So in lieu of blogs, I am posting my podcast list, mainly for future reference if I have a system crash.

Beware, public radio dead head. )

Reading the News

The Necronomicon: Now with companion volume.

States besides Alabama make me want to strangle state representatives: MO Rep Cynthia Davis to low-income children on free meals: "Hunger can be a positive motivator. What is wrong with the idea of getting a job so you can get better meals? Tip: If you work for McDonald’s, they will feed you for free during your break."

Thank goodness I voted against this asshole, though my parents probably voted for her (She represents my parents' White Flight St. Louis suburb.)

Words I could do without seeing in print: "BAMAzing" and "un-BAMA-lievable!"
