There a lot to go off of, certainly. The politics of how media passes between the cultures of that area (and furthermore, what gets exported) is rife with power politics.
At the moment all I can think of is "That's why I always get the sense from Americans that everything Chinese is red and gold and fu dogs."
A view which glosses right over the huge regionalized ethnic diversity of China, a diversity the Chinese government has only recently made an attempt to embrace or make known to the outside world.
